A 22-year-old Pulaski woman has published her first book even before she has finished her undergraduate studies.
Rebecca Quick finished writing her first novel in early 2007 and had it successfully published by the end of the year. Her book is titled “Supreme Sacrifice” and is set during medieval times (approximately A.D 500-1350) on an isolated island. “This town is taxed by an enemy tribe, and only three escape, and it’s up to those three to save the other townsmen,” said Quick describing the plot of her book.
Quick graduated from Pulaski High School in 2005. It was during her 11th- or 12th-grade year she began writing Supreme Sacrifice.
“The story idea just came to me, I guess,” the young author said. Quick said she is interested in the Middle Ages but has not studied the time period extensively.
Publish America, Inc. is the publishing company Quick chose for her book. The company is based out of Maryland, and Quick found it while searching online for publishers. The novel was published between October and December 2007.
Quick graduated from Jefferson Community College in December. She is now attending SUNY Oswego to obtain a degree in creative writing. The published author anticipates graduating from the state university in fall 2009.
Although the author enjoys writing about medieval subjects, she plans on expanding her writing genre.
“I’m considering working on kind of a sci-fi thing in space,” she said. Quick also stated that she is currently working on another novel based on a fictional band she created. She began writing her second book in October and is not sure when it will be completed.
Supreme Sacrifice is available to order from the river’s end bookstore, located on the corner of West First and Bridge streets in Oswego.
