Oswego, N.Y. -

This Saturday, local artists of every kind invite the greater Oswego community to a one-time art collective event called “The Dreamt House” at  the Knights of Columbus, located on West Bridge Street in Oswego.

Almost every type of art form will be included in the show, ranging from poetry and painting to live music. The event kicks off at 5 p.m. and will conclude at 10:30 p.m. From 5-7 p.m. poetry will be read and shortly after music from six different bands will commence.

“The whole idea is home, in the greater sense of home, community,” said Tina Ruth, a volunteer who helped coordinate Dreamt House. Admission will be charged and can be reduced by donating hygiene products and canned goods that will later be given to Human Concerns. “It’s definitely nonprofit,” said Jasmyn Belcher, co-coordinator of the event. “We’re not  trying to make any money.”

Belcher and Mark Lavonier are the two main coordinators of the Dreamt House show. “Mark and I thought of this idea a couple of months ago,” Belcher explained. “And it definitely fleshed out. I wanted it to be a community outlet.”

“It’s a good opportunity for artists and musicians in the community to meet people and see what’s going on besides (events at) SUNY Oswego,” Lavonier said.

He stated that the Knights of Columbus will be filled with a whole slew of furniture including beds, couches and end tables. “It’s sort of a surreal home environment,” Lavonier said. He explained that the idea behind the show is that every artist, whether if they are musical, visual or whatever, needs a sense of home with creature comforts before they can reach beyond that sense of home to tap into their creativity.

More than 20 local artists will display their work at the show. The art and poetry zine, The Canary, will launch its third and latest issue Saturday as well. Music includes the band GARK! Lavonier is a member and described GARK! as a comedy and power rock band. Also featured will be Vessel, a modern rock band with an accordion that is traveling from Boston for the show. Other artists include John Shambo a rapper from Oswego, Hello, Halebopp! from Syracuse and a two-piece instrumental band, The Worst.

“The main event and reason I put this show together is my two-year solo project, Fulkramic,” Lavonier said. The artist/musician said he spent 600 hours making an interactive PC game. Lavonier said the video game’s main character, Fulkramic, has a dream that his recordings have been stolen and he must journey to the dreamt house to retrieve them.

The project not only includes the video game, but five or six TVs with projections playing video. All the while Lavonier will play his album he created out of 1940s avante garde music he has edited and recut. “It’s weird music,” he said. “But people have told me it’s more accessible with video.”

The Dreamt House show is open to people of all ages. A coloring station will be set up for children who are in attendance.
