Oswego, N.Y. -

While the big-block modifieds will highlight racing Saturday at Fulton Speedway, the Dean Hubbs Memorial Race for the IMCA modifieds will be tonight’s main event at Brewerton Speedway.

There is no racing this weekend at Oswego Speedway.

Here is a look at action at Fulton and Brewerton speedways this weekend.

Fulton Speedway

Syracuse.com is sponsoring Saturday’s program at Fulton Speedway. The card will include feature shows for the DIRT big-block modifieds, DIRT Crate Sportsman cars, E&V Energy Rookie Crate Sportsman Modifieds, UMP Street Stocks, and the four-cylinder enduros.

Alan Johnson in the Bullys Truck Stop #14j showed the competition that he will be threat to win the track championship. Johnson won the season-opening race after a torrid early battle with his brother Danny.

After engine problems sidelined Danny Johnson in the JIR Motorsports #27j, he will be expected to come back and contend this week.

Other big-block modified drivers to watch include defending track champion Jimmy Phelps in the J&B Installations #99j, Tim Sears, Tom Sears, Ryan Phelps, Sean Beardsley, Steve Hulsizer, Kevin Bates, and Willy Decker.

The father and son team of Sammy Reakes III and Sammy Reakes IV have picked up the wins in early season sportsman action. Defending track champion Jeremy Pitcher is always a threat, along with Tom Juhl, Tim Sears Jr., Greg Carner, and others.

With only one feature run in 2008, the UMP Street Stocks are led in the point standings by Dave Mannise and Steve Crouse. Defending track champion Ron Hawker, Nick Rizzo, Steve Woodworth, and Jim Wallace are other top drivers to watch.

So far in the E&V Energy Rookie Crate Sportsman Modifieds, John Wilber and Mark Olmstead have feature wins.

Gates open at 5 p.m. and racing starts at 7 p.m. at the track, located along Route 57, just south of Fulton.

Brewerton Speedway

The Dean Hubbs Memorial Race for the IMCA modifieds will be the feature attraction today at Brewerton Speedway.

Also on the card will be the DIRT big-block modifieds, ESDCA Mod Lites, four-cylinder super stocks, and four-cylinder enduros.

In the big-block modifieds, Billy Decker in the Gypsum Wholesalers #91 has won three features.

Alan Johnson, defending track champion Willy Decker, Matt Sheppard, and others will look to add their names to the 2008 winners’ list.

Rob Keller is setting the early pace in the IMCA modifieds with two wins. Kevan Cook, Mike Chilson, Bill Anderson, and Rich Keller complete the top five in points. Defending track champion and national IMCA points runner Dale Caswell picked up the win on opening night. Since then he has had mechanical problems, but he hopes to be back challenging tonight.

Lowell Zehr leads the competitive Mod Lites in points, and he looks to pick up win number two tonight. Joe Garafalo, Tim Devendorf, Doug Williams, and Terry Lapham are within striking distance of Zehr in the point standings. Williams has two wins at Brewerton and also won this past Saturday at Fulton.

In the four-cylinder super stocks, Claude Hutchings Jr., who is splitting his driving time between the super stocks and Rookie Crate Sportsman Modifieds on Saturday at Fulton Speedway, leads the points with two wins.

Gates open at 5:30 p.m. and racing starts at 7:30 p.m. at the track, located along Route 11 in Brewerton.
