The West Baptist Church in Oswego located at corner of West Third and Mohawk streets, will be hosting a “Valentine’s Coffee House” from 7-8 p.m., Feb. 8. Singles, couples or families; all are welcome. Admission and entertainment are free.
Refreshments will be sold at the church’s Organ Grinder’s Cafe and all proceeds will benefit the rebuilding of the church’s pipe organ. For more information, contact Abel J. Searor at 598-8800.
Entertainment will be provided by “The Revs;” clergy couple Suzi and Jim Harriff from Syracuse. They have been singing together since they first met 30 years ago, with a repertoire ranging from contemporary/traditional Christian songs and hymns to classic and contemporary folk music.
Jim is pastor of the First Baptist Church of Canastota, is a RE/Max real estate broker, and sings with the Master’s Touch Chorale, which has performed twice at the White House. Suzi serves as organist/worship planner at Northminster Presbyterian Church, is the chaplain at Iroquois Nursing Home, and teaches classes in preaching, worship and Biblical studies for those studying for lay certification. She also owns a media and public relations consulting firm, which just celebrated its 23rd anniversary.
Residents of Manlius, the Harriffs have a grown son, Michael, who owns a computer consulting business in New York City.
The highlight of their ministry together is their annual trip to Rwanda in east central Africa, where they share their music and preaching ministry in a number of different settings, and teach seminars and workshops for pastors and their families on issues including partnership in ministry between husbands and wives, self-care for church leaders, and the economic empowerment of the Gospel. They hope to make their next trip this spring with several others from the upstate New York area.
