Oswego, N.Y. -

Minetto Elementary will welcome its new principal July 1 from a school district a little ways down the road. Roseann Bayne, the current principal at Williamstown Elementary, has been chosen to lead Minetto Elementary School.

At the June 3 Oswego Board of Education meeting, it was announced that Bayne would be the newest administrator at the elementary school.  Minetto interim principal Donna Simmons is moving to Fitzhugh Park Elementary to fill in the top spot vacated by Linda Doty.

Bayne will serve a three-year probationary period at the school and will earn an annual salary of $80,628.

“I am very excited to learn more about the Oswego community,” she said.

For the past three years Bayne has served in administration at the Altmar-Parish-Williamstown School District, the last two as principal at Williamstown Elementary. She has been with the district for a total of 14 years, 11 of which she spent teaching English and social studies in grades 9-11.

All three of Bayne’s degrees came from SUNY Oswego. In 1990 she received her bachelor’s degree in English. Bayne obtained her master’s in 1998 in secondary in education. In 2006 she finished her certificate of advanced study to become an administrator.

Bayne, a native of Mexico, graduated from Mexico High School in 1983. She has been a lifelong resident of Oswego County and currently resides in Mexico.

“I am excited about Minetto,” Bayne said. “I have been in country schools my whole life.” She noted that Minetto appeared to be the most country-like school in the Oswego City School District.

There were a couple of reasons that Bayne applied for this job in the Oswego district. Williamstown Elementary is closing this upcoming school year. Also, three administrative positions were eliminated in next year’s budget cuts and according to seniority; she was one of those cuts.

Either way, Bayne is looking forward to begin her new job. “I am excited to start July 1 as I wrap things up here June 30,” she said.
