Oswego native Elizabeth Enwright’s hard work has paid off. The soon-to-be 19 year old is scheduled to sing at the prestigious Carnegie Hall June 29 as part of a 75-member honor choir.
The group will be singing a movement from Vesperae Solennes De Confessor, the Latin title for Mozart’s Vespers. Hank Dahlman is to conduct the Distinguished Concerts Orchestra International, consisting of a children’s choir and the honors choir.
The 2007 Oswego High School alumna has spent the past year as a voice and French major studying at the Crane’s School of Music in SUNY Potsdam.
“I’ve been singing professionally for about six years,” Enwright said.
Enwright has studied voice professionally with Amanda Carney at SUNY Oswego and has been considering transferring to Oswego to study as a theater major next year. She gives a great deal of credit to her middle school teacher, Ed Taverni, for encouraging her to sing professionally, as well as Oswego High School music teacher, William Palange.
Enwright had another great opportunity last year when she was asked to write a blog for Seventeen Magazine. She spent 10 months working online and also wrote an article called “Freshman 15” which was published in the magazine.
“I hope to go to NYC one day to sing on Broadway,” said Enwright.
The performance will be held in the Issac Stern Memorial Concert Hall at 8:30 p.m.
