The new budget was defeated 1,666 to 1,133. The original $66.59 budget was defeated by voters May 20. After this, the Oswego Board of Education chose to reinstate 10 positions; two music, two art, one physical education and one librarian position at the elementary level; and one technology teacher and three hall monitors at the secondary level.
The newly defeated budget contained a 5.7 percent tax rate increase while the original budget had a 3.81 tax rate increase. For the two previous years there were no tax rate increases.
According to Superintendent of schools David Fischer, the school board can either choose to adopt the amended budget as is or meet to make additional cuts to the recently defeated budget.
A special budget meeting will be held Thursday at 5 p.m. in the education center board rooms. A budget must be in place by midnight June 30.
