Dorothy I. Thompson, 91, of 201 W. Second St., Oswego, died Friday, Aug. 1, 2008 while vacationing with her family on Cape Cod.


She was born in Providence, R.I., the eighth child of the late Richard and Catherine (Roycroft) Earley. She was educated in the parochial school system in East Providence, R.I. Following high school graduation she was employed as a long distance operator at New England Telephone Co.


She married Edward F. Thompson on May 1, 1942. They enjoyed 42 years together.


At the age of 68, she moved to the Harbor House Condominiums in Oswego to be with her son and grandchildren and began widowhood. She spent the next 23 years loving her family, enjoying retirement and traveling in the company of her new Harbor House friends.


She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother, and was very proud of her family. She was fiercely independent.


Surviving are her son, Richard Roycroft Thompson and his wife Paula of Minetto; grandchildren, Anthony of Cranston, R.I., Katrina and R.P of Boston, Mass. and Christian of Oswego; her nephews, Joseph Fitzgerald of Brooklyn and Robert Janelle of Jamestown, R.I.; and her Harbor House family.


There are no calling hours.


A Memorial Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Saturday at St. Joseph’s Church, W. First St., Oswego.
