ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. -

Virginia Dare “Ginny” Ranous, 88, of St. Augustine, Fla., died  May 7, 2008, at Flagler Hospital in St. Augustine.


She was a native and longtime resident of Oswego and had lived in St. Augustine since 2001.


Virginia grew up working at the DuBois Hotel in Oswego, a business owned by her family. She also worked M.J. McDonald Fashion Store in Oswego and was head of classified advertising for The Palladium-Times.


She was also very active in the Oswego community having been involved with the Oswego Players as an actress, director, president and treasurer. She was a member of the P.E.O., had served as president of the Oswego Children’s Board, chairman of the Red Cross and was active with Welcome Wagon, Girl Scouts and the Quilting Club.   


She was preceded in death by her husband, Theodore “Dunk” Ranous.


She is survived by her daughters, Judith Stitz of Rossville, Ga., Kathy Sincavage of St. Augustine and Amy Hanley of Vero Beach, Fla.; 11 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren.    


Private services will be held at a later time. Donations in lieu of flowers can be made to: Community Hospice of Northeast Florida, 4266 Sunbeam Road, Jacksonville, FL 32257.


St. Johns Family Funeral Home in St. Augustine has care of arrangements.
