FULTON -

Joseph A. Swiatlowski, 91, a lifelong resident of Fulton,  
died Thursday, May 8, 2008, at Seneca Hill Manor in Oswego.


Joe was a graduate of Syracuse University class of 1938 where he was  
a member of Theta Chi Fraternity and would have celebrated his 70th  
class reunion in September.


He was a veteran of World War II in the Army/Air Force and was  
commissioned as a major in the China-Burma-India Theater in its  
finance department during the war.


In his civilian life, he was the owner of Stanley Tobacco Co. in  
Fulton and was the publisher of The Fulton Patriot in Fulton together  
with his sister and brother-in-law, Wilma and Chet Rondomanski.


His community involvement in the city of Fulton evidenced not only  
his love of his Polish heritage as an officer of the Polish Home, St.  
Michael’s Club and the Polish Legion of American Veterans but also  
his pride in his home town as past president of the Fulton Kiwanis  
Club, as a volunteer with the Lee Memorial Auxiliary at the  
hospital’s snack bar, as a volunteer with the Red Cross Bloodmobile  
and as a sports exhibitor with the Friends of History in Fulton. He  
was the recipient of the Harry Seabury Award from the Fulton Kiwanis  
Club in 1996 and of the Syracuse University Orange Pack Loyalty Award  
in 1997.


His wife, the former Pauline Koski, predeceased him in August 2007.
He is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Alicia and Dick  
Calagiovanni and his granddaughter, Julia Calagiovanni, all of  
Syracuse; his sister, Wilma Rondomanski of Fulton; and several nieces  
and nephews.


Prayer services will be held at 8:30 a.m., Tuesday, at Foster Funeral  
Home with a 9 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial celebrated at Holy Family/
St. Michael’s Parish, 45 W. Third St., Fulton.


Burial will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Fulton.


Calling hours are 5-7 p.m., Monday, at the funeral home, 910 Fay St.,  
Fulton.


In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Friends of  
History in Fulton, Inc., 177 S. First St., Fulton, NY 13069 or to  
Syracuse University for the benefit of the Office of Alumni  
Relations, 401 University Place, Syracuse, NY, 13244.
