ESCONDIDO, Calif. -

Angelo Loschiavo of Escondido, Calif., passed away Sunday, April 20, 2008, after a long illness.


Mr. Loschiavo was born June 2, 1922 in Oswego, a son of the late Joseph and Josephine (LaFortuna) Loschiavo.


He was a 1940 graduate of Oswego High School and after beginning college in Oswego was drafted for service in World War II.


He served in an armored division and saw action in France and Belgium during the Battle of the Bulge.


When he returned home, he returned to college in Oswego and earned a degree as an industrial arts teacher. Soon after, he taught in the North Salem School District in Westchester County for 31 years, 16 years as a high school principal.


After retirement, he and his wife, Mary, moved to California where they quickly became very active in the Senior Joslyn Center in Rancho Bernardo, where he served as board president for many years.


Before suffering from Parkinson’s disease, he enjoyed golf and traveling. He and Mary traveled extensively, visiting Europe, Alaska and many points of interest in the United States.


He is survived by his wife, Mary (Sterio) Loschiavo; two sons, Joseph (Donna) Loschiavo and James (Susan) Loschiavo, both of Danbury, Conn.; one daughter, Ann Marie (David) Lambillotte of Carlsbad, Calif.; four grandchildren, Joseph Loschiavo, Sara Loschiavo and Laura and Ben Lambillotte; one brother, Charles Loschiavo of Chandler, Ariz.; one sister, Rosemary Skillen of Oswego; one brother-in-law, Nick Sterio of Oswego; and one sister-in-law, Mayme Ellis.


Funeral services were held Thursday at St. Mary’s Church in Escondido.


Burial was in Fort Rosencrans National Cemetery, San Diego.
