Joseph Spagnola Sr., 82, of Fulton, died Sunday, May 4, 2008, at A.L. Lee Memorial Hospital, Fulton.


Mr. Spagnola was born in Syracuse and has been a resident of Fulton for 58 years.
He retired from the Container Corp. of America.


He was a U.S. Veteran having served in the Army 153rd Airborne from 1944-1946 as a Technician Grade 5. He received the Certificate of Proficiency as a Second Cook, the World War II Victory Medal, American Campaign Medal and the EAME Campaign Medal.


He was a member of the Italian American Club and a Life Member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #569.


Mr. Spagnola loved the New York Yankees, roller-skating and bowling.


He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Gilda (Scerbo) of Fulton; his daughters, Linda (Jim) Carioti of Phoenix, Phyllis (Mike) Crisafulli of Phoenix and Theresa Conley of Fulton; his son, Joseph G. (Paul Tyler) Spagnola Jr. of East Syracuse; his sisters, Josephine (Bob) Call of Liverpool, Angie Lima of Mattydale and Rose Spagnola of Liverpool; his brothers, Tony (Phyllis) Spagnola of Syracuse and Patrick (Kathy) Spagnola of West Vale; seven half-brothers and a half-sister; several nieces and nephews and his loving dog, Elsie.


Funeral services will be 11 a.m., Wednesday at the Sugar Funeral Home, Inc. and at 11:30 a.m. at Holy Family Church, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by the Rev. Robert Stephenson.


Burial will be at St. Mary’s Cemetery.


Calling hours will be conducted 4-8 p.m., Tuesday at the Sugar Funeral Home, Inc. 224 W. Second St. South, Fulton.
