“And this is the confidence that we have in Him, that, if we ask anything according to His will, He heareth us: And if we know that He hear us, whatsoever we ask, we know that we have the petitions that we desire of Him.” (1 John 5:14-15)
Last week, I talked about how wonderful it would be to always make the right decision, have the right answer to every question and never make mistakes. All of which we know is impossible in this human world with our human minds.
I pointed out that even with all of the love and support we have from our church, family and friends, they are human as well. They are limited as to what they can do to help and what advice they can offer us. We are all limited, but there is One who is not.
God tells us often in His Word to turn to Him for guidance and help. He does not guarantee that we will never have troubles, but lets us know that He is there to get us through the difficult times.
Even better, if we are attuned to Him through the Holy Spirit, taking the time to be still and listen through prayer and meditation, we may be able to heed His warning, thus avoiding the difficulty altogether.
So, as I said last week, we should not fear and we should not hesitate to ask God for help.
Now I am here to tell you that “He will listen and answer.”
I think these verses say it well:
“For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, saith the Lord, thoughts of peace, and not of evil ... Then shall ye call upon me, and ye shall go and pray unto me, and I will hearken unto you.” (Jeremiah 29:11-12)
And one more important thing. When God does get you “out of trouble” or takes the fear out of your heart and gives you peace, share that with others. Don’t keep God to yourself. Your prayers, your charity and your relationship with God is private — what God does for you and what God can offer everyone should be shared.
Don’t be stingy with God; He is not stingy with us.
Encourage others to seek God. For those who do believe already, encourage them to never give up on God no matter how bleak their situation appears at the moment. He does not and will never forsake those who sincerely seek Him.
“And ye shall seek me, and find me, when ye shall search for me with all your heart.” (Jeremiah 29:13)
