To the editor:
This letter is written to the callous, careless, and inconsiderate person who hit and killed two of my neighbor’s pet geese (Wednesday morning) on county Route 51A in Scriba, and then didn’t have the common decency to remove them from the road.

Since I enjoy watching the geese from my office window, I had seen them in the yard at about 9:20 a.m., then when I went to leave for a 10 appointment 15-20 minutes later, there two of them were, splattered all over the road, with the third, mercifully — or not — since they were always together, squawking from the yard.

They were hit on a fairly straight, flat stretch, so whoever hit them had to be going like a bat-outta-hell in order not to have seen and avoided them, and considering the time frame, I doubt they even tried to avoid hitting them.

It was my unfortunate duty to contact the owner so the birds could be removed from the road before her children got home from school. People drive up and down county Route 51A like it’s their own personal drag strip, and God help anything which may be in their way. Many of us who live on this road have children, grandchildren and pets who play outside, and you clueless people need to realize that you’re turning your vehicles into potentially lethal weapons by driving so thoughtlessly through our neighborhood.

SLOW DOWN!!!!
