To the editor:
After speaking to district clerk William Foley recently, I am still confused. Would someone please explain?
1. The first budget of 3.81 percent was defeated, was this the contingency budget? If so, was it advertised as such?
2. The second budget was in excess of 5 percent; that was also defeated; do you fail to see the taxpayers cannot afford these constant increases in times of declining enrollments?
3. Property assessments have increased dramatically. Contrary to what the county government claims, I do not believe Oswego city or town or the surrounding areas are in such demand to warrant these increases. The term recession is self-explanatory.
4. Why do we bother to vote if the board completely disregards the wishes of the majority?
5. Finally, IF, Mrs. Tiballi was serious about offering the departing superintendent of schools a raise in any amount, do you realize that sets the bar higher for the new superintendent. Would someone please try to show some understanding that those of us on fixed incomes cannot afford this generosity?
Thank you.
