The Oswego varsity girls softball team fell to Rome 5-1 on Tuesday at Oswego High School.
Rome pitcher Courtney Creedon gave up five hits and struck out four in the win. Bucs pitcher Lauren Corradino had nine strikeouts.
Danielle Phillips powered Rome with a triple and three RBIs.
The Bucs scored their only run in the bottom of the sixth. Sarah Petrie was sent home from first base following a single by Lexi Deming. Petrie moved to second on the single and both runners advanced two bases after Rome’s throw to the infield went out of play, scoring Petrie.
Rome went ahead 3-0 with runs in the third, fourth, and fifth innings.
Phillips drove in two runs with a grounder through the infield in the top of the seventh, giving the Black Knights a 5-1 lead.
The Bucs threatened with runners on first and second with one out in the bottom of the seventh. However, the Black Knights turned a double play to seal the win.
